Dr. Dawda K. Pouncy, DNP, APRN, FNP-C
Popularly known as “Dr. Dawda,” Dr. Dawda K. Pouncy, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, is a dedicated, multi-faceted, and experienced healthcare professional.
Dawda is a Doctor of Nursing Practice, health and wellness expert, educator, and published author. With her years in the healthcare industry, she has showcased rare passion for health awareness. However, she has worked diligently to promote the benefits of a preventative approach for optimal family health and raise awareness of natural healing modalities. Dawda’s journey in healthcare began as a Neonatal Intensive Care Registered Nurse in Dallas, Texas. Her experience and interactions with families convinced her that health promotion and prevention for families was where her passion lies. She then pursued a Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University to become a Family Nurse Practitioner and later obtained a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the Maryville University. Due to her innate curiosity for learning more about how disease affects the human body, she attended Oceania University of Medicine. During her studies in medicine, she encountered a series of health challenges, which lead her to explore a more natural and refined approach to medication for a better understanding the root cause of disease.
Discovering unconventional solutions for self-healing from her chronic illnesses, motivated her to find alternative modalities. Consequently, Dawda did not continue to pursue her M.D. but redirected her path towards more natural solutions to health and wellness. Despite being aware of these modalities, she still personally struggled to maintain a healthy balance daily while suffering from chronic pain in her youth. She began searching beyond what mainstream medicine had to offer and discovered, Functional and Integrative Medicine. After this tremendous discovery, she diverted paths to becoming a Functional Medicine Practitioner, where naturally heal and enjoyed practicing medicine again. With her background, professional, and personal experiences, she is capable of integrating the best of both worlds, uncovering the root cause of disease, while combining conventional and alternative medicine solutions to optimal health.
Presently widely respected and sought-after for her valuable contributions to the field, Dawda currently owns a private Functional Family Medicine practice in Frisco, Texas. She also serves as adjunct Faculty for Chamberlain College of Nursing where she teaches her students to apply both allopathic and complementary therapies into clinical practice. Her continued efforts through empowerment for underrepresented populations receive well-rounded healthcare, and guidance they deserve is unmatched. Furthermore, Dawda has appeared on various media outlets, where her life-changing messages on the importance of prevention and wellness continue to make a difference in people’s lives.
– “Since I first started in the art of medicine, I have made it my life’s work to raise awareness about healthy, natural living for all, leaving no one behind. Being mentally, spiritually, and emotionally balanced seems challenging enough. But “living your best life,” while maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle, seems almost impossible! But, with the right guidance, not only can you and I can make this possible, together, we can make it a fun, rewarding, and potentially lifesaving journey!”
